Chaturbate's model is simple: the live rooms are free to open, and everything you pay for happens inside a room with tokens. The home page describes itself in its own page description as "No Registration Required" and "100% Free", and the menu sorts the rooms by Female, Male, Couple and Trans cams.
The paid part sits on top of that. In a room's player you'll find buttons for Private, Cam To Cam and Send Tip, next to the chat. Tips and private shows are the two things the terms and the rate bands put a price on, which is why the rest of this review is about how tokens are bought, spent and capped.
The Buy Tokens page sits behind a login, so you can't see a pack price without an account. Opened from Spain at the time of writing, the Buy Tokens page sent a logged-out visitor straight to the login screen, so this review quotes no pack prices. Read yours on that page, in your own currency, before you pay.
What the terms do say is how the money works. Community members may put money on deposit with the platform, and that money is converted to tokens. The terms add that those tokens can only be used through the platform, to tip broadcasters or to buy items from a broadcaster's bio page.
The terms also name a payment facilitator: certain purchases may be processed by UAB Alternative Payments, in Vilnius, Lithuania, described as an EU-based purchase facilitator. If that name appears on your card statement, this is where it comes from. Stripchat is another site that runs on tokens, and how Stripchat bills tokens, privates and refunds is laid out separately.
One more price you can't see from outside is Supporter. The room player shows a note that previewing rooms needs an upgrade to supporter, and the upgrade page is behind the same login. Treat it as a separate paid extra, and read its price there.

How Do Tips and Tip Menus Work?
A tip is a gift of tokens that is final the moment you send it. The terms say all token tips are intended as a gratuity and are final when sent.
Many broadcasters post a tip menu, a list of tip amounts with what each one is meant to unlock. The terms address it directly: if a broadcaster doesn't follow through on their menu after receiving a tip, you can't legally compel a performance or insist on a refund of the gratuity.
The terms leave you two options in that case:
Rate the broadcaster: you can register positive or negative feedback through the rating system once every 30 days.
Report it: the terms ask you to report repeated failures to honor a tip menu, and say it may lead to action against the broadcaster.
Treat every tip as spent. Before you tip, decide the amount you'd be fine never seeing again.

How Are Private Shows, Spying and Fan Clubs Billed?

Private shows are listed in five rate bands, measured in tokens per minute: 6, 12-18, 30-42, 60-72 and 90+. The home page has them as a filter called Private Show Tokens Per Minute, the page footer lists them as Available Private Shows, and each band has its own page.
The cheapest band costs 6 tokens a minute and the top one starts at 90, so the same ten minutes can cost very different amounts depending on the room you open. Read the band before you click Private.
Three more details from the site and its terms:
Recordings: private shows are recorded by default, and the recording goes to the member who bought the show, unless the broadcaster turns recording off in their settings.
Spying: the menu has a Spy on Cams page, and a room can show "Spy has been disabled by the broadcaster". Read the rate in the room before you spend anything.
Fan clubs: a broadcaster picks a monthly fee, and joining one renews automatically and rebills monthly until you cancel the membership.
The fan club is the one recurring charge in this section, so cancel it on the day you decide you're done.

Do You Need an Account to Watch?
You don't need one to open a room, but you do need one to chat or to buy tokens. The chat box of a logged-out visitor reads "signup to chat" and "totally free, no email needed", and the same box shows a balance of 0 tokens.
The home page also has Sign Up and Log In buttons in its header. Creating the account is the point where your data comes into play, so it helps to know what incognito mode hides and what it doesn't before you choose a browser and an email address.
The token purchase page and the supporter upgrade both redirect to that login. Decide your cap in section 07 before you create the account, not after.

How Do You Pay, and What Can Rebill You?
You pay with a card, and the Billing Support page lists two billing routes: Chaturbate Direct Billing for Mastercard, Visa and Discover, and Epoch as a third-party billing agent for the same cards. The page says "EPOCH.COM" appears on your statement for the Epoch route, and it gives a contact for each route.
The terms set out the rules that touch your money:
Auto-Token Refill: when you buy a package, you may be offered to have it repurchased automatically when your balance falls under a level you set. If you turn it on, you authorize a charge each time the balance drops below that level. You're notified each time, and you can disable it in your account settings.
Billed only as requested: your payment method is billed as you request, and you aren't billed for the same purchase on a recurring basis unless it's specifically stated. Fan clubs, covered in section 04, are the stated exception.
The 30-day window: if a billing error appears on a statement and you don't tell Chaturbate within 30 days, the terms treat the charge as accepted.
Transaction limits: Chaturbate may limit your transactions based on factors that include how long you've been a member, your location and your refund requests.
A session budget works best as two limits you write down before you open a room: a token cap and a time cap. Chaturbate bills private shows per minute, so the arithmetic is the fastest way to see what a band does to your balance.
The table uses a round 100 tokens as an example, divided by the lowest and highest rate in each band. It is my arithmetic on the posted bands, not a Chaturbate price.

Use the table to turn your cap into minutes. If you want a private to last 10 minutes, a 6-token room needs 60 tokens and a 12-token room needs 120, before any tip. Then choose the room that fits the cap, not the other way around.
Four habits keep the cap real:
Set the token cap first, then convert it to money using the pack price you read on Buy Tokens.
Keep Auto-Token Refill off, so the balance can only fall to zero.
Buy one pack per session, and treat a second pack as a new decision made tomorrow.
You can close your account at any time, and the terms let you withdraw unused money on deposit by contacting customer support, less amounts that third parties charged for the deposit and the refund. Tips are the exception: they're final when sent, and tokens given in connection with obtaining member content are not refunded for any reason.
To end your account, the terms point to a cancellation page or to customer support. They also say you remain personally liable for charges on your account until you terminate it, and that closing it ends your access to the non-public areas and to any member content in your account. That includes recordings of private shows you bought, so check what you want to keep before you close it.
Any complaint about a tip goes through the platform: the terms say it may pass the complaint to the other party for a response, at its choice and with no obligation to do so.
